Lend a Hand & Reap the Benefits

Volunteering is a great way to help others as you help yourself. In addition to being a great way to serve others, there are many personal benefits to lending a helping hand that you might not have considered.

  • Feel like you have more – According to a study published in the Harvard Business Review, despite giving up  your time to volunteer, you might actually feel like you have more time on your hands.
  • Learn something new – Depending on your volunteer role, you might actually learn a new skill. Not only can this benefit you from a general knowledge perspective, it might also make you more marketable in the workforce.
  • Health benefits – According to the Corporation for National & Community Service, there are many health benefits to volunteering,  including reduced levels of depression, longer lifespan, and increased vitality.
  • Happiness – While it is no surprise that volunteering can brighten the lives of those you are helping, studies have found that it can also make you happier as you develop empathy and create social connections with those who you are serving.

At the Community Cancer Center, our volunteers truly make a difference for both our patients and our staff. There are a variety of ways that volunteers lend a hand.

  • Front desk – Greet patients and answers any questions they might have. In addition, desk personnel help visitors find office locations and make sure our coffee stations are stocked.
  • Behind the scenes – Many of our volunteers are not seen by the public, but play an important part ensuring typing, filing, reception, and other clerical tasks are covered.
  • Music – Our patients and employees enjoy soothing piano music from our volunteer musicians.
  • Retail – The Community Cancer Center gift shop is the perfect place to make a difference stocking shelves and ringing up sales.
  • Gardening – The Healing Garden always needs an extra hand. If you have a green thumb, come help keep our gardens beautiful and assist any additional projects in the works.

At Community Cancer Center, we value the sacrifices our volunteers make to ensure that our patients, visitors and staff members are cared for. Contact us if you are interested in lending a hand.
